Visitors planning a day at New York City’s iconic Deno’s Wonder Wheel Amusement Park were left disappointed on Saturday after the park announced it would remain closed due to poor weather conditions.
The historic Coney Island amusement park confirmed the closure on the morning of July 18, citing adverse weather and expressing hope that guests would return once conditions improved.
Safety Comes First
Located directly on the Coney Island beachfront in Brooklyn, Deno’s Wonder Wheel is particularly exposed to changing weather conditions. Heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds can make it unsafe to operate many of the park’s rides, especially its towering Wonder Wheel and other elevated attractions.
Rather than opening with limited operations, the park opted to remain closed for the entire day.
The announcement comes during what is normally one of the busiest periods of the summer season, with thousands of tourists and local visitors typically flocking to Coney Island on July weekends.
