One of the world’s tallest and fastest roller coasters is back in operation. Carowinds has announced that Fury 325 has officially reopened after completing a comprehensive foundation improvement project and extensive safety inspections.
The B&M giga coaster had been temporarily closed after the park detected a minor change in the foundation surrounding one of the attraction’s hundreds of support columns during a routine maintenance inspection.
Issue Found During Preventive Maintenance
According to Carowinds, the issue was identified as part of the park’s regular inspection programme rather than after an incident.
The park explained that Fury 325’s support structure is routinely inspected and that maintenance teams noticed a slight change in the foundation around one support column. Although the coaster remained structurally sound, the decision was made to temporarily close the attraction while engineers carried out further investigations and repairs.
Extensive Repairs Completed
Carowinds worked with structural engineers, maintenance specialists, independent experts and the North Carolina Department of Labor to complete the necessary foundation improvements.
Following the repairs, the coaster underwent another series of inspections before being cleared to return to service. According to the park, Fury 325 now meets and exceeds all required operational and safety standards.
A Roller Coaster With a Remarkable History
Fury 325 opened in 2015 and quickly established itself as one of the world’s premier steel roller coasters. Manufactured by Bolliger & Mabillard (B&M), the ride reaches a height of 325 feet (99 metres), a top speed of 95 mph (153 km/h) and features more than 6,600 feet (over 2 kilometres) of track.
The coaster also made international headlines in 2023 after a cracked support beam was discovered, leading to another temporary closure while the damaged section was replaced. Although the latest closure was unrelated to that incident, it once again demonstrated the park’s willingness to take the attraction out of service whenever inspections identify something that requires further investigation.
With the latest repairs completed, Fury 325 has now resumed normal operation, allowing guests to once again experience one of North America’s most celebrated roller coasters.
