Legendary Entertainment is officially entering the theme park industry with the opening of Kong x Godzilla: The Ride at Lotte World Adventure in Seoul, South Korea. The highly anticipated multimedia dark ride will welcome its first guests on July 24, becoming the first attraction ever based on the Monsterverse franchise.
Developed by Sally Dark Rides in collaboration with Legendary Entertainment and Toho Co., Ltd., the attraction has been several years in the making and represents the largest single attraction investment in Lotte World Adventure’s history.
Journey into Hollow Earth
Guests are recruited by MONARCH, the secret scientific organisation featured throughout the Monsterverse films, before boarding futuristic Hollow Earth Aerial Vehicles (HEAVs) for an expedition beneath the Earth’s surface.
The approximately 11-minute adventure transports riders into Hollow Earth, where a catastrophic volcanic event throws the hidden world into chaos. As Titans begin to rampage, guests must work alongside Kong to restore order before discovering how Godzilla becomes involved in the escalating crisis.
The attraction combines large-scale media screens, motion-based ride vehicles, towering animatronics, practical effects, immersive sound and environmental effects to recreate the scale and intensity of the Monsterverse films.
A fully themed Monsterverse experience
The experience begins long before guests board the ride vehicles. The queue takes visitors through MONARCH Outpost M-42, a research facility established around a newly discovered Vile Vortex leading into Hollow Earth. Throughout the queue, guests explore laboratories, Titan research areas and equipment storage before receiving a mission briefing for their expedition.
After the adventure concludes, guests exit through a themed retail location featuring exclusive Kong x Godzilla merchandise and a dedicated on-ride photo area, extending the Monsterverse experience beyond the attraction itself.
A milestone for the Monsterverse
While both Kong and Godzilla have appeared in theme park attractions before, Kong x Godzilla: The Ride is the first attraction built entirely around Legendary’s Monsterverse continuity. It also marks Legendary Entertainment’s first purpose-built theme park attraction and another major project for Sally Dark Rides, one of the industry’s leading creators of immersive dark ride experiences.
The attraction replaces the former Jungle Adventure ride, bringing one of cinema’s most successful monster franchises to life through an original story created exclusively for Lotte World Adventure. Its opening represents another significant step in the growing trend of blockbuster film franchises becoming permanent theme park experiences.
