World’s First Interactive Indoor Roller Coaster to Launch in Chongqing

Chongqing, China, is set to become the stage for a global first in the amusement world. Maurer Rides, the German manufacturer known for its innovation, is building the world’s first interactive indoor roller coaster at the upcoming indoor theme park HI SPACE.

The attraction will introduce SPIKE® technology to Asia for the first time, offering riders complete control over their own speed.

Personalized Ride Experience with SPIKE® Technology

This revolutionary coaster uses a gear-driven SPIKE® system, allowing guests to accelerate and brake at will during the ride. Each vehicle is motorized and individually controlled, enabling a unique and self-directed experience for every rider. No straight track segments are required for acceleration or deceleration, and advanced safety systems ensure precise and reliable control.

Technical Highlights and Layout

The coaster track measures 290 meters in length and reaches a height of 11 meters. Four independently controlled vehicles navigate the indoor space at speeds of up to 80 kilometers per hour. The layout winds through the entire park and wraps tightly around a central drop tower, creating dynamic interactions with other attractions. The total ride time ranges between 27 and 36 seconds, depending on the rider’s chosen speed. Capacity is estimated at 500 riders per hour.

HI SPACE: Chongqing’s New Indoor Entertainment Hub

The roller coaster will serve as the centerpiece of HI SPACE, a state-of-the-art indoor theme park covering 28,000 square meters. The park is part of the much larger Hi Chongqing development, which will span 489,000 square meters and feature a mix of retail, entertainment, and residential facilities. Located in a fast-growing urban district, the area will include 40,000 residential units currently under development, reinforcing the park’s role as a major destination.

Innovation Driving Future Attractions

With this project, Chongqing positions itself at the forefront of immersive entertainment in Asia. The introduction of SPIKE® technology marks a major milestone in roller coaster design, emphasizing individual control and next-level engagement. For Maurer Rides, this installation reaffirms the company’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of what modern amusement attractions can offer.
