Universal to Open Year-Round Horror Attraction in Chicago

Universal Horror Unleashed - Universal Destinations & Experiences plans to introduce its “Universal Horror Unleashed” attraction in Chicago, marking the company’s first branded venue in the U.S. Midwest. This follows the planned opening of a similar venue in Las Vegas, scheduled for August 2025. The Chicago attraction will be situated at the former Tribune Distribution Center on Chicago Avenue, near the River North and West Town neighborhoods.

New Midwestern Location

Chicago was chosen as the location due to its significant population and reputation as a hub for tourism and entertainment. The attraction is designed as a year-round indoor experience, featuring various environments and scenes. The site will aim to draw a broad audience from the city’s cultural scene.

Attraction Details

The “Universal Horror Unleashed” in Chicago will offer a range of themed features. It will include multiple scenes and environments, providing an experience centered around the horror genre. The venue will also offer themed food and drinks and include a retail space selling exclusive merchandise.

Global Expansion Plans

The Chicago development is part of Universal’s broader global expansion, which includes several projects worldwide. In addition to the Chicago and Las Vegas attractions, Universal is developing Universal Epic Universe, a theme park in the UK planned for 2031, and the Universal Kids Resort in Frisco, Texas, set to open in 2026.
