Universal Orlando Resort may be preparing the first major expansion for Epic Universe. A recently filed permit indicates early groundwork on a significant plot of land connected to the newly opened theme park. While Universal has not confirmed what the expansion will include, the filing strongly suggests movement toward future development.
Early Site Work Requested
The permit, submitted to county officials, requests approval for “site utilities and foundation work” within the boundaries of Epic Universe. The scope listed in the permit covers approximately 150,000 square feet of construction area. Although the filing does not reveal project details, the size indicates that Universal is planning more than simple infrastructure upgrades.
Expansion Pad Near Wizarding World Area
Epic Universe was designed with several expansion areas built into the park layout. One of the largest and most discussed pads sits directly behind The Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Ministry of Magic. Aerial photography shows a clear and undeveloped area bordered by backstage service roads and existing themed facades. The size of this plot closely aligns with the square footage listed in the permit.
Within the current Harry Potter area, a themed street on the eastern side appears intentionally designed to accommodate future expansion. Decorative storefronts and a quiet dead-end corridor feature a plaque referencing the French Ministry of Magic. Behind these façades, no show buildings currently exist, strengthening speculation that a future attraction or land could be added through this point.
What Could Be Coming?
Universal has not announced any new attractions or confirmed that the permit relates specifically to The Wizarding World. However, the park’s existing Harry Potter attraction, Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry, has received strong praise for its detailed environments and highly immersive queue design. Any follow-up addition would likely aim to match this level of scale and storytelling.
At this stage, all possibilities remain speculative. Universal could choose to expand Harry Potter, focus on another themed area, or reserve the land for a different phased addition in the future.
A Sign of Continued Growth
Regardless of the final concept, the permit confirms that Universal is planning to grow Epic Universe beyond its opening footprint. The presence of expansion-ready land was a key part of the park’s original design, allowing Universal to introduce new areas as demand increases.
For fans and future visitors, the permit represents an early indication that the park will continue to evolve in the years ahead.
