Universal Orlando Resort has announced a brand-new nighttime lagoon spectacular based on Netflix’s Stranger Things for Halloween Horror Nights 35. Titled Stranger Things: Return to Hawkins, the new production will debut during this year’s event at Universal Studios Florida, adding another major entertainment offering alongside the haunted houses and scare zones.
The new show marks the latest collaboration between Universal and Netflix, bringing one of Halloween Horror Nights’ most successful franchises to the resort’s central lagoon for the first time.
A cinematic nighttime spectacular
Stranger Things: Return to Hawkins will transform the Universal Studios Florida lagoon into the supernatural world of Hawkins, Indiana through a combination of towering water screens, projection mapping, fountains, lighting effects, lasers and pyrotechnics.
The production revisits memorable scenes from the hit Netflix series while introducing an original story created exclusively for Halloween Horror Nights. Guests can expect appearances from familiar characters as well as terrifying creatures from the Upside Down in a show designed to recreate the atmosphere that has made the series a global phenomenon.
The lagoon spectacular has been developed as a large-scale experience that complements the event’s haunted attractions while offering guests another way to immerse themselves in the Stranger Things universe.
Continuing a successful partnership
Stranger Things first appeared at Halloween Horror Nights in 2018 and quickly became one of the event’s most popular intellectual properties. Since then, the franchise has returned multiple times with haunted houses inspired by different seasons of the Netflix series, consistently drawing long queues and strong guest demand.
The addition of a dedicated lagoon show represents another evolution of the partnership, expanding the franchise beyond traditional walkthrough attractions and into a fully produced nighttime spectacular.
Another major addition to Halloween Horror Nights 35
Universal has continued to broaden Halloween Horror Nights in recent years by introducing more live entertainment alongside its haunted houses. Large-scale lagoon productions help provide additional capacity during the event while giving guests another headline experience after dark.
Stranger Things: Return to Hawkins joins an already expanding lineup for Halloween Horror Nights 35, which begins on August 29 and runs on select nights through November 1. The event will once again feature a mix of original haunted houses and experiences based on some of the biggest names in horror entertainment.
