The transformation of one of Universal Orlando Resort’s oldest themed lands is gathering pace. New construction walls have appeared throughout The Lost Continent at Universal Islands of Adventure, further reducing guest access and signalling that redevelopment work is accelerating.
The latest closures come just weeks after several long-standing attractions and experiences in the land permanently closed, fuelling continued speculation about what Universal has planned for the area.
Construction Expands Across the Land
Guests visiting Islands of Adventure are now encountering additional construction walls surrounding several sections of The Lost Continent.
The new barriers have closed off more pathways and public spaces, while work is also taking place around the former Poseidon’s Fury attraction and neighbouring buildings. Although Universal has not officially announced the purpose of the ongoing construction, the expanding work zones suggest that preparations for a major redevelopment are well underway.
Despite the closures, the Mythos Restaurant and nearby guest pathways remain accessible.
After the Closure of Poseidon’s Fury
The Lost Continent has gradually become one of the smallest lands at Islands of Adventure following the closure of Poseidon’s Fury in 2023. More recently, additional shops, entertainment offerings and smaller guest experiences have also ceased operations, leaving large portions of the area inactive.
As construction walls continue to spread, many fans believe Universal is preparing the land for its next major project.
Zelda Rumours Continue
Universal has remained silent about the future of The Lost Continent, but speculation continues to centre around a possible land inspired by Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda franchise.
Rumours linking Zelda to the area have circulated for several years, particularly after Universal expanded its partnership with Nintendo through Super Nintendo World. However, no official announcement has been made, and the company has not confirmed what will eventually replace or redevelop The Lost Continent.
Until then, the growing number of construction walls is providing the clearest indication yet that significant changes are on the horizon.
A New Chapter for Islands of Adventure
When Islands of Adventure opened in 1999, The Lost Continent was one of its flagship themed lands, featuring elaborate mythology-inspired architecture, live entertainment and the groundbreaking Poseidon’s Fury walkthrough attraction.
While much of that original offering has disappeared over the years, the current construction activity suggests the land may soon begin its biggest transformation since the park first opened. Whether the future holds a completely new intellectual property or a reimagined version of the existing land, Universal appears to be preparing for another major evolution of one of its most iconic parks.
