Construction is progressing rapidly on Universal Studios Florida’s new roller coaster, Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift. The attraction, which is replacing the former Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, is scheduled to open in 2027 and has become one of the most visible construction projects currently underway at the Orlando resort.
Over the past few weeks, several major milestones have been reached on site. One of the most prominent elements, a 170-foot (52-metre) vertical spike, has now been completed and can be seen rising above Universal CityWalk. Large sections of track have also been installed, making the coaster clearly visible from several locations throughout the resort.
Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift occupies the site previously used by Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, which closed in August 2025 after more than 15 years of operation. Demolition of the former coaster began shortly afterwards, clearing the way for Universal’s next major thrill ride.
Replacing Rip Ride Rockit
Universal officially confirmed the project in January 2026. The attraction will be themed to the Fast & Furious film franchise and will serve as the Florida counterpart to the coaster currently operating at Universal Studios Hollywood.
The new ride is being manufactured by Intamin and will feature spinning vehicles capable of rotating 360 degrees. According to information released by Universal, the coaster will include a launch system, three inversions and a track length of approximately 4,100 feet (1,250 metres).
New landmark on the skyline
As construction continues, the attraction is already beginning to reshape the skyline of Universal Studios Florida. The completed spike has become one of the most noticeable structures in the resort and can be seen from the area around the Universal globe and CityWalk. Recent aerial photographs also show substantial progress around the future station building and surrounding infrastructure.
When it opens in 2027, Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift is expected to become the tallest roller coaster at Universal Orlando Resort. Universal has also confirmed that Fast & Furious: Supercharged will close as part of the ongoing redevelopment of the area.
