Time Machine Reopens at Fantasy Island Following Full Re-Theming and Refurbishment

Fantasy Island in Skegness has reopened its indoor ride under the new name Time Machine, following a substantial re-theme and refurbishment at the end of the 2024 season. Previously known as Magic, the ride returned to the park in July 2025 with updated narrative theming and mechanical upgrades.

History and Transformation of an Iconic Ride

The ride originally debuted as Magic, a Magic spinner model manufactured by HUSS, first installed in 1993 on the platform of the former Rock ’n Roll Monster ride that had been damaged in a fire. Over the years, the ride was relocated several times before arriving at Fantasy Island, where it operated under the name Magic from 2018 until its closure in late 2024.

Magic underwent a full overhaul and retheme during the off-season. The control system was previously upgraded in 2022 to automate ride cycles, and the 2025 transformation gave the attraction a completely new identity. As Time Machine, it now features story-driven visuals and time-travel motifs integrated into the ride experience.

Final Test Cycles and Guest Debut

The refurbished ride was transported back to Fantasy Island on the evening of July 12, 2025, and full test cycles began shortly thereafter. Publicly shared footage confirmed smooth operations and thematic enhancements. The park held an official unveiling in early August 2025, inviting visitors to be among the first to experience the newly rebranded Time Machine.

Ride Experience and Capacity

Time Machine retains its original HUSS Magic spinner structure, encompassing a circular ride platform where up to 48 riders can be accommodated per cycle. A minimum rider height of 120 cm is enforced, with unaccompanied riders required to be at least 140 cm tall.

The transformation includes immersive graphic panels, new lighting, and auditory elements to support the time-travel theme. Although the basic ride mechanics stayed the same, the refreshed theming aims to create a more narrative-driven and visually engaging visitor experience.

Footage of final test cycles showed synchronized ride motion and creative thematic decor in the loading area. The park’s promotional announcements described the ride as “totally reimagined” and hinted at hidden surprises and new twists, reinforcing that the refurb was more than just cosmetic.
