Six Flags Great Adventure has officially opened Shoreline Pier, completing the transformation of a major section of the park’s Boardwalk into a new family-focused area inspired by the amusement piers of the Jersey Shore.
The new destination combines five rides with refreshed dining, midway games and live entertainment. Four of the attractions are new to Great Adventure, while a long-running park ride has returned following a mechanical refurbishment and relocation.
Shoreline Pier welcomed its first guests following a grand opening ceremony on June 30. The project had originally been announced for late spring and forms part of a wider programme of investment currently reshaping the New Jersey theme park.
Five Rides Added to the Boardwalk
The largest attraction in the new area is Barrels O’ Fun, a compact spinning family roller coaster. Riders travel through a series of small drops and turns in barrel-shaped vehicles that can rotate as they move around the track.
Flying Scooters allows passengers to control the movement of suspended vehicles using adjustable sails. By changing the angle of the sail, riders can make their vehicle swing higher or follow a gentler path around the central tower.
Wave Swinger is a traditional chair-swing attraction that lifts and tilts as it rotates. Its arrival also brings this type of ride back to the park after the original Flying Wave operated at Great Adventure between 1974 and 2007.
Hypno Twister features four rotating arms carrying vehicles through a sequence of spinning movements. The ride combines several layers of rotation and includes moments in which passengers are lifted from their seats.
The fifth attraction is Super Roundup, which has been part of Great Adventure in different forms and under several names since the park’s opening year in 1974. Standing passengers are held against the circular wall by centrifugal force before the platform tilts to an angle of approximately 80 degrees.
The attraction previously operated as Fantasy Fling, The Tornado and Swashbuckler. It has now reclaimed its original Super Roundup name following a complete mechanical overhaul and relocation to Shoreline Pier.
Jersey Shore Food and Midway Games
Six Flags has designed the surrounding area to resemble a traditional New Jersey seaside boardwalk rather than presenting the new rides as a standalone collection of flat attractions.
Food outlets offer fresh-cut fries, corn dogs, Italian ice and funnel cakes alongside more regional creations. These include Jersey-style disco fries covered with mozzarella and gravy, as well as a capicola corn dog served with hot honey.
Several elaborate funnel cake sundaes have also been introduced. One combines blueberries, blueberry syrup and blueberry ice cream, while another is topped with ricotta cream, chocolate and pieces of cannoli shell.
Traditional midway games and new retail offerings complete the transformation, with updated lighting and coastal decoration intended to give the area a more unified identity.
New Entertainment Continues After Dark
Roaming performers, stilt walkers and live musicians are scheduled to appear around Shoreline Pier during selected operating days.
The opening also forms part of Boardwalk Nights, a new summer event running on selected evenings until August 2. The nighttime programme includes singers, dancers, acrobats and stage performances, while the rides remain illuminated and operational after dark.
The event is intended to extend the area’s atmosphere beyond its daytime family focus and recreate the energy of a seaside amusement pier at night.
A Major Change for Great Adventure’s Boardwalk
Shoreline Pier replaces a previously underused section of the Boardwalk and gives Great Adventure a concentrated collection of attractions aimed at families and mixed-age groups.
The addition arrives during a period of substantial change for the park. Great Adventure has also installed replacement sections of track on El Toro, upgraded its Wi-Fi network and refreshed several food locations during the 2026 season.
Meanwhile, construction continues directly beside the Boardwalk on Project Purple, the record-breaking launch roller coaster scheduled to open in 2027.
The ride has now reached its full height of 375 feet, with the final section of track recently installed. Work is shifting towards electrical systems, ride controls, mechanical equipment, the queue and preparation for testing.
Visitors to Shoreline Pier therefore receive a close view of what is currently one of the largest roller coaster construction projects in the world.
While that coaster will eventually become Great Adventure’s next major headline attraction, Shoreline Pier gives the park a more immediate addition for 2026. Its five rides, boardwalk food and nighttime entertainment have now opened together, bringing new activity to an area that will become increasingly important as the park’s wider transformation continues.
