Germany - Schwerin Zoo in Germany has opened a new adventure playground located on the “festival meadow” between the farm and the meerkat enclosure. The playground features a series of treehouse structures, each representing a profession associated with zoo life.
Treehouse Adventure Playground Details
The playground consists of five small treehouses, each themed around a different zoo-related profession, including a veterinarian, zoo director, shop assistant, and animal hairdresser. The area includes various climbing elements for children to explore.
Design and Construction
The project was a collaborative effort between Schwerin Zoo and Künstlerische Holzgestaltung Bergmann, a company specializing in artistic wood design. Planning and design began in the spring, and the construction of the playground elements took place over two months in Neißeaue, Saxony. The removal of the old playground was completed in about one week, and the installation of the new structures took two weeks. Schwerin Zoo’s craftsmen handled the groundwork and fall protection measures, including the placement of wood chips for a soft play surface.
Funding and Completion
The project was funded through a crowdfunding campaign that raised 100,000 euros, with significant contributions from the energy and internet company WEMAG and other donors. The playground was completed in time for the summer holidays. The opening was attended by WEMAG representatives and the zoo’s director.
