The United Kingdom has become the number one international priority for Puy du Fou as the award-winning entertainment company looks to continue its expansion beyond France and Spain.
In a recent interview with Blooloop, Puy du Fou President Nicolas de Villiers confirmed that Britain is now at the heart of the company’s international ambitions. While interest has come from several countries around the world, he made it clear that the proposed UK resort is currently the group’s main focus.
The comments provide one of the strongest indications yet that Puy du Fou is fully committed to establishing its unique style of historical entertainment in the United Kingdom.
Building on the Success of Spain
Puy du Fou has experienced rapid international growth since opening Puy du Fou España near Toledo in 2021. The Spanish park has expanded almost every year with new live shows, themed villages, restaurants and hotels, quickly becoming one of Europe’s fastest-growing theme park destinations.
With the Spanish resort now firmly established, the company is turning its attention to what could become its third permanent park.
Plans for a British Puy du Fou have been under development for several years. The proposed resort near Bicester in Oxfordshire would feature spectacular live productions inspired by British history, alongside themed villages, landscaped gardens, restaurants and hotels.
Unlike traditional theme parks, Puy du Fou is built around large-scale live performances rather than roller coasters. Its productions combine hundreds of performers, elaborate sets, pyrotechnics, water effects, animals and immersive storytelling to recreate key moments from history.
British Stories, Not French Shows
During the interview, De Villiers also reiterated one of Puy du Fou’s core principles: every park tells the story of its own country.
Instead of recreating successful French productions abroad, each destination receives an entirely original line-up of shows based on local history and culture. Spain tells Spanish stories, and a future UK park would celebrate Britain’s own historical figures, legends and defining events.
This localisation strategy has become one of the company’s defining characteristics and is expected to continue with every future international project.
A Global Vision
Although the company continues to receive enquiries from other countries interested in hosting a Puy du Fou park, De Villiers suggested that expanding into Britain is the clear priority before pursuing further international destinations.
If the project receives final approval, the UK resort would become only the third permanent Puy du Fou park after France and Spain. It would also represent another major step in the transformation of what began as a single historical night show in western France into one of Europe’s most successful entertainment brands.
While planning and approval processes are still ongoing, the latest comments leave little doubt about the company’s ambitions. According to Nicolas de Villiers, the United Kingdom is no longer simply a future possibility—it has become the next major chapter in Puy du Fou’s international expansion.
