Progress on Villains Land at Magic Kingdom

Florida - Construction on the new Villains Land at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom in Orlando is ongoing, with notable changes to the park’s landscape already visible. The development, which began in August 2025, follows the closure of Tom Sawyer Island and the draining of the Rivers of America in July 2025. This project constitutes a significant transformation of the park’s layout.

Construction Milestones and Site Alterations

The Villains Land site is located beyond Big Thunder Mountain, in an area that previously housed Tom Sawyer Island. Fort Langhorn on the island has been demolished to accommodate new developments, and the site is currently being prepared for infrastructure installation. As of November 2025, construction trailers have been established onsite to facilitate the ongoing work.

Aerial photography has captured the progress, showing extensive tree clearing north of Magic Kingdom’s former berm. This work is part of the site preparation for the new land and suggests additional space is being utilized for construction staging.

Project Scope and Surrounding Developments

Disney has not provided specific details about the attractions or character appearances for Villains Land. However, concept art has indicated the inclusion of Maleficent in dragon form. This artwork implies a focus on iconic Disney villains, though the complete lineup remains undisclosed.

Adjacent to the Villains Land project, a Cars-themed area called Piston Peak is also under development. This concurrent expansion is connecting the new development pad with the former Tom Sawyer Island site, effectively merging previously distinct areas of the park.
