One of Pleasurewood Hills’ most recognisable attractions has welcomed guests once again after standing silent for more than a decade.
The UK theme park has officially reopened its Castle Theatre, ending a 13-year closure and bringing live entertainment back to one of the park’s historic venues. The revived theatre now hosts a brand-new production by Circus Hassani, marking another milestone in Pleasurewood Hills’ ongoing redevelopment under its new ownership.
For many returning visitors, the reopening represents the revival of a long-lost part of the park’s history.
Back in Action After More Than a Decade
The Castle Theatre first opened in 1988 and quickly became one of Pleasurewood Hills’ signature indoor attractions.
Over the years, the venue underwent several transformations. It originally operated as The Haunted Castle, featuring live actors, puppetry and special effects before later becoming the Crinkley Bottom TV Studios attraction during the Noel Edmonds era. In the 2000s, it was reimagined as Captain Andy’s Rivertown Revue, an audio-animatronic show created by former Disney Imagineers.
Following a short run of magic performances in 2012 and 2013, the theatre closed its doors and remained unused for the next 13 years.
Circus Hassani Opens a New Chapter
The newly refurbished theatre has now reopened with Circus Hassani as its debut production.
The family-friendly show features a mix of acrobatics, comedy and traditional circus performances, giving guests another entertainment option alongside the park’s rides and attractions. Visitors can also enjoy refreshments at the newly opened Castle Bar, located within the venue.
Rather than restoring one of the theatre’s previous productions, Pleasurewood Hills has chosen to begin a completely new chapter with a modern live entertainment programme.
Investment Beyond Attractions
The reopening forms part of a wider investment programme following the park’s acquisition by Premier Attractions. Alongside the return of the Castle Theatre, Pleasurewood Hills has introduced several new rides and has committed to improving both its attractions and guest experience.
While roller coasters often receive most of the attention, live entertainment has become an increasingly important part of a successful day at regional theme parks. Indoor shows provide all-weather entertainment, encourage guests to stay longer and offer experiences that appeal to visitors of all ages.
After sitting empty since 2013, the Castle Theatre is once again filled with audiences, marking the return of one of Pleasurewood Hills’ most iconic landmarks.
