Ohio - Kings Island is set to reintroduce its former dark ride attraction, Phantom Theater, with a new concept. Scheduled to open in April 2026, the ride, now called Phantom Theater: Opening Nightmare, will replace the current Boo Blasters on Boo Hill and is being developed by Sally Dark Rides.
Return of a Classic with Modern Enhancements
Phantom Theater was an attraction at Kings Island from 1992 until 2002. The updated version aims to integrate elements from the original with current technology. The ride will include advanced animatronics and projection mapping to create detailed scenes.
Interactive Elements and Key Characters
Phantom Theater: Opening Nightmare will feature interactive components. Visitors will use a flashlight to interact with 26 scenes during the ride. The attraction will end with a musical finale. Key animatronic characters include No Legs Larry, the head usher, and Maestro, the pipe organist.
Development and Technology
The project is being developed by Sally Dark Rides, a company known for designing themed attractions. The ride will incorporate both traditional and modern interactive technology, utilizing animatronics and projection mapping to enhance storytelling and interaction.
