A roller coaster that thrilled visitors in the United Kingdom for nearly two decades is preparing for a second life in France. The Gerstlauer Euro-Fighter roller coaster formerly known as Speed: No Limits at Oakwood Theme Park is currently being rebuilt at Walygator Sud-Ouest, where it will reopen under the name Titan as one of the park’s new headline attractions.
The relocation follows the permanent closure of Oakwood Theme Park at the end of the 2024 season, with several of its major rides being redistributed to other parks within the Aspro Parks Group.
From Wales to southern France
Speed: No Limits opened at Oakwood Theme Park in Wales in 2006 as the park’s first major thrill coaster. Manufactured by German company Gerstlauer, the compact Euro-Fighter featured a beyond-vertical first drop, multiple inversions and an intense layout that quickly made it one of the UK’s best-known thrill rides.
Following Oakwood’s closure, the coaster was carefully dismantled before being transported to Walygator Sud-Ouest in Roquefort, France. Construction is now well underway, with support columns and track sections already assembled at the park.
Rather than simply reinstalling the attraction, Walygator Sud-Ouest is giving the coaster an entirely new identity.
Reborn as Titan
When the coaster opens, it will do so under the name Titan and feature a new theme inspired by Greek mythology. The attraction is being presented as a powerful mythical force, with a redesigned entrance area, new trains and updated theming intended to create a fresh experience for visitors.
Although the layout itself remains unchanged, riders can still expect the same high-intensity experience that earned the coaster its reputation. After climbing a 35-metre vertical lift hill, the train pauses briefly before plunging down a dramatic 97-degree first drop. The compact 600-metre layout then races through a series of tight turns and three inversions, including a vertical loop and a heartline roll, reaching speeds of up to 95 km/h.
Once it opens, Titan will become Walygator Sud-Ouest’s tallest, fastest and most intense roller coaster, significantly expanding the park’s thrill ride offering.
Giving attractions a second life
The relocation reflects a growing trend within the theme park industry, where established attractions are increasingly being moved rather than demolished. Reusing existing roller coasters allows parks to introduce major new rides while reducing construction costs, shortening development timelines and extending the operational life of proven attractions.
For Walygator Sud-Ouest, Titan represents one of the park’s most significant investments in recent years and demonstrates the benefits of giving well-maintained roller coasters a new future instead of retiring them.
Part of Oakwood’s legacy
Oakwood Theme Park permanently closed after the 2024 season, bringing an end to more than 35 years of operation. Instead of scrapping many of its attractions, owner Aspro Parks chose to relocate several rides to sister parks across Europe.
The transfer of Speed: No Limits is one of the most prominent examples of that strategy. By reopening as Titan, the coaster will continue entertaining guests while beginning an entirely new chapter hundreds of kilometres from its original home.
Opening expected this year
Construction on Titan is progressing rapidly, although Walygator Sud-Ouest has yet to announce an official opening date. If work continues as planned, visitors can expect to experience the reborn Euro-Fighter later this year.
For roller coaster enthusiasts, the project ensures that one of Gerstlauer’s early Euro-Fighter installations will continue operating well beyond its twentieth anniversary, preserving a modern classic while introducing it to a whole new audience.
