Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has announced the development of “Great Tides Waterpark” on its private island, Great Stirrup Cay, in the Bahamas. This project, anticipated to open in the summer of 2026, will feature various water-based activities.
Details of the Great Tides Waterpark
The “Great Tides Waterpark” will cover approximately 2.5 hectares (6.2 acres) and include 19 water slides. A notable element of the water park is the “Tidal Tower,” a 52-meter (171-foot) tall structure with eight distinct slides. These will include tube slides, racing slides, and body slides, all supplied by a Canadian manufacturer. The park’s design will also feature family-oriented components, such as an 840-square-meter (9,042-square-foot) children’s splash zone and a four-person family raft slide.
Additional features will include a 240-meter-long (787-foot) “Dynamic River” and a cliff jumping area with platforms at 3 meters (10 feet) and 4.5 meters (15 feet). A distinctive aspect of the waterpark will be a mini racetrack designed for “jetkarts,” which combine elements of go-karts and jet skis.
Developments at Great Stirrup Cay
The redevelopment at Great Stirrup Cay, which includes the waterpark, will introduce several new facilities expected to open later this year. These additions will include a heated swimming pool, a new pier capable of accommodating multiple ships, the Welcome Plaza, and an island tram service.
Visitor Numbers and Cruise Operations
With the increasing demand for Caribbean cruises, particularly to the Bahamas, Norwegian Cruise Line expects to host about one million guests on 15 of its ships visiting Great Stirrup Cay in 2026. The addition of “Great Tides Waterpark” aligns with this expected increase in cruise passengers.
