Legoland Billund Resort in Denmark has permanently closed the interactive thrill ride Ice Pilots School, marking the end of more than two decades of operation.
The attraction, known for its robotic arm motion and rider-controlled programme, operated until December 31, 2024.
A Unique Experience Retired
Ice Pilots School, originally opened in 2004 under the name Power Builder, featured two‑person gondolas attached to a large robotic arm.
Riders could choose their own ride sequence via an interactive touchscreen before each cycle. The attraction allowed for movements in all directions, offering a highly tailored motion experience up to extreme levels.
Polar Land
The ride was situated in the Polar Land section of the park. Guests aged at least 120 cm could ride, and riders 140 cm or taller could select the most intense motion programmes.
Reason for Closure
According to a Legoland spokesperson quoted by Looopings, the park opted not to perform a major renovation despite the ride being due for significant maintenance.
Instead, they decided to retire the attraction and allocate resources toward future investments.
The spokesperson confirmed the final operational day was December 31, 2024, and that the ride is no longer listed on the Legoland Billund map, website, or app.
No Immediate Replacement
As of mid‑2025, Legoland has indicated that no specific replacement has been confirmed. However, the park stated that various potential developments are under consideration. A ride of similar style still operates under the name Power Builder at Legoland Deutschland.
Legoland Billund Resort
Legoland Billund opened in June 1968 and remains Denmark’s original Legoland park. As of 2024, the park featured around 50 attractions, including four roller coasters and multiple water rides across its 14-hectare footprint. The closure of Ice Pilots School reduces the count of thrill rides in Polar Land, which also features attractions such as Arctic Basecamp and Polar X‑plorer.
