Karls Erlebnis-Dorf Döbeln has officially opened Betty’s Beerchen Boomerang, marking the debut of Vekoma’s new Family Boomerang coaster model. The attraction welcomed its first guests on July 4 after receiving final approval just hours before opening.
The new coaster is the first of two nearly identical Family Boomerang installations planned for Karls Erlebnis-Dorf parks in Germany this year.
Approval arrived just in time
The opening was only confirmed at the last minute. According to Karls, the required TÜV certification was granted late the evening before the scheduled opening, allowing the attraction to open as planned the following day.
Despite the tight timeline, the park proceeded with a full opening ceremony attended by Karls founder Robert Dahl, Saxony Minister-President Michael Kretschmer, Döbeln Mayor Sven Liebhauser, District Administrator Sven Krüger, and Vekoma representative Stefan Holtman.
Following a countdown, the ribbon was cut and the first official riders boarded the new family coaster before celebrations concluded with a fireworks display.
A new family coaster experience
Betty’s Beerchen Boomerang introduces Vekoma’s latest family coaster concept. The attraction features a 230-metre track and reaches a top speed of 60 km/h. Riders travel through the layout both forwards and backwards, offering two different perspectives during a single ride.
The coaster has been fully themed around Karls’ signature strawberry branding. Its train resembles a giant strawberry, while the station has been designed as an oversized strawberry basket. A themed café has also been constructed alongside the attraction to complete the experience.
Children from 95 cm tall can ride when accompanied by an adult, while those measuring at least 120 cm may ride independently.
Second installation coming later this year
Döbeln is the first Karls Erlebnis-Dorf to receive the new Family Boomerang. A second installation of Betty’s Beerchen Boomerang is scheduled to open later this year at Karls Erlebnis-Dorf Elstal, near Berlin.
The two projects represent the first examples of Vekoma’s new Family Boomerang model and continue Karls’ strategy of expanding its parks with highly themed attractions aimed at families rather than high-intensity thrill seekers.
