One of Louisville’s most beloved Halloween traditions is moving to a new location. Beginning this fall, the Jack O’Lantern Spectacular will be hosted at Kentucky Kingdom, marking the first time the popular event has taken place outside Iroquois Park since its debut.
The announcement represents a major addition to Kentucky Kingdom’s growing lineup of seasonal events and continues Herschend’s investment in expanding the park’s year-round appeal.
A New Chapter for a Louisville Tradition
For more than a decade, the Jack O’Lantern Spectacular has attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors with thousands of intricately hand-carved pumpkins displayed along a themed nighttime trail.
The move to Kentucky Kingdom will give the event a larger venue while allowing it to become part of the park’s autumn offerings. Although the traditional wooded setting at Iroquois Park will be replaced by a new environment inside the theme park, organizers say guests can still expect the signature illuminated pumpkin displays that have made the attraction a seasonal favorite.
Expanding Kentucky Kingdom’s Fall Season
The Jack O’Lantern Spectacular will complement Pumpkins at Kentucky Kingdom, the park’s family-friendly fall festival running from 2 October through 1 November 2026.
The seasonal celebration already includes themed decorations, live entertainment, trick-or-treat experiences and glowing pumpkin displays, with the addition of the Spectacular significantly expanding the park’s Halloween offering.
Part of a Multi-Year Investment
The announcement follows a series of major investments at Kentucky Kingdom under Herschend’s ownership.
After opening the Discovery Meadow expansion in 2025 and debuting the new Flying Fox family suspended roller coaster earlier this year, the park has teased another major attraction for 2027 while continuing to strengthen its lineup of seasonal events.
Mixed Reaction From Fans
The relocation has generated considerable discussion among local residents and theme park fans.
Many welcome the move, believing Kentucky Kingdom can provide more space, parking and additional attractions alongside the pumpkin displays. Others are disappointed to see the event leave the wooded trails of Iroquois Park, arguing that the natural setting was an important part of its atmosphere.
The first Kentucky Kingdom edition of the Jack O’Lantern Spectacular will debut as part of the park’s 2026 fall season, introducing a new chapter for one of Louisville’s best-known Halloween attractions.
