Fun Spot America has announced that its Atlanta-area park will permanently close on August 2, bringing an end to more than three decades of operation. The decision marks the closure of one of Georgia’s best-known regional amusement parks and raises major questions about the future of its headline attraction, the acclaimed ArieForce One roller coaster.
A Difficult Decision for the Family-Owned Operator
Located in Fayetteville, Georgia, the park first opened in 1990 as Dixieland Fun Park before becoming Fun Junction USA in 2012. Fun Spot America acquired the property in 2017, investing in new attractions and attempting to transform the park into a destination for thrill seekers as well as local families.
In a statement, CEO John Arie Jr. described the closure as an extremely difficult decision, thanking employees and the Fayetteville community for their years of support. The company has confirmed that the park will continue operating as normal until its final day on August 2, after which the site will close permanently. Season passes and gift cards will remain valid at Fun Spot America’s Florida parks in Orlando and Kissimmee.
ArieForce One Becomes the Biggest Question
For many enthusiasts, the closure is particularly significant because of ArieForce One, the Rocky Mountain Construction hybrid coaster that opened in 2023. Despite being only a few years old, the ride quickly earned a reputation as one of the world’s highest-rated steel coasters.
The attraction features a height of 47.2 metres, reaches speeds of 103 km/h and includes an 83-degree first drop alongside four inversions. Its arrival generated international attention and attracted coaster enthusiasts from around the world.
With the park now set to close, the future of ArieForce One remains uncertain. No announcement has been made regarding whether the coaster will be relocated, sold or dismantled, although many fans hope the attraction will find a new home rather than be lost.
Attendance Challenges
Fun Spot America has not officially provided a detailed explanation for the closure. However, local reports indicate that attendance remained below expectations despite the major investment in ArieForce One. While the coaster became a bucket-list attraction for enthusiasts, it was apparently not enough to generate the sustained visitor numbers needed to support the entire park.
The company’s Florida locations are unaffected and will continue normal operations.
