Nearly two years after Disney announced a new Spider-Man attraction for Hong Kong Disneyland, the project has finally entered a visible new phase.
Construction walls have appeared in Tomorrowland, confirming that work is now underway on the long-awaited Marvel attraction first revealed during D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in August 2024. The development marks the latest chapter in a project that has undergone several changes since Disney first unveiled its plans for a Marvel-themed expansion at the resort.
A replacement for an earlier Marvel project
The Spider-Man attraction announced in 2024 was not originally part of Disney’s Marvel expansion plans for Hong Kong Disneyland.
When the resort unveiled its multi-year transformation programme in 2016, Disney outlined a vision for Stark Expo, a Marvel-themed district that would gradually expand Tomorrowland. The first phase opened with Iron Man Experience in 2017, followed by Ant-Man and The Wasp: Nano Battle! in 2019. A third major attraction centred around the Avengers Quinjet was also announced.
However, years passed without visible progress on the Quinjet project. While Disney continued to reference the future expansion, no construction began and updates became increasingly rare.
That changed during D23 2024, when Disney officially revealed a new Spider-Man attraction featuring Peter Parker, Tony Stark and Doctor Octopus. The announcement effectively replaced the previously planned Quinjet ride and introduced a new direction for the final phase of Stark Expo.
What Disney has revealed so far
According to Disney, the attraction’s story begins when Peter Parker showcases his latest inventions during a Stark Expo event. The demonstration is interrupted when Doctor Octopus attempts to seize the new technology, forcing Spider-Man into action. Guests become part of the adventure as events spiral out of control.
While Disney has not officially revealed the ride system, concept art released in 2024 and 2025 has provided several clues. The artwork depicts Spider-Man battling Doctor Octopus around a towering industrial structure, leading many observers to speculate that the attraction could use a vertical ride system rather than a traditional dark ride.
Industry observers have frequently compared the concept to a Tower of Terror-style attraction, although Disney has not confirmed those reports.
Construction finally becomes visible
For much of 2025, the project existed largely through concept art and official announcements.
That changed in early 2026 when Hong Kong Disneyland closed the Tomorrowland Stage and surrounding areas to make way for construction. New walls appeared around the site, providing the first visible evidence that work on the attraction had begun.
The construction site is located within the existing Marvel area and forms part of a broader expansion that Disney says will also include new entertainment and shopping offerings. The completed development will further expand Stark Expo, creating what Disney describes as a larger Marvel-themed destination unique to Hong Kong Disneyland.
The future of Marvel at Hong Kong Disneyland
Hong Kong Disneyland currently operates two Marvel attractions: Iron Man Experience and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Nano Battle! Both attractions remain exclusive to the resort. The Spider-Man attraction will become the third major ride within Stark Expo and continue Disney’s strategy of turning Tomorrowland into a Marvel-focused land.
The project also represents one of the resort’s next major additions following the opening of World of Frozen in 2023 and the launch of the park’s 20th anniversary celebrations. While Disney has yet to announce an opening date, the start of construction suggests the attraction is finally moving from concept to reality.
For Disney, the attraction completes a vision first announced almost a decade ago. For visitors, it brings the promise of a new Marvel experience that has been years in the making.
