Construction on Walt Disney World’s highly anticipated Monsters, Inc. land is gathering pace, and the first major ride scene for its headline roller coaster is now beginning to take shape.
New aerial photographs captured by theme park photographer BioReconstruct reveal significant progress at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, where crews have started constructing what appears to be the opening scene of the attraction. The latest developments offer the clearest look yet at how Disney is bringing Monstropolis to life.
The Factory Is Starting to Appear
The new images show steel framework and large themed structures rising on the construction site, with the first recognizable show building now becoming visible.
Based on the layout and concept art previously released by Disney, the structure is believed to represent the famous Monsters, Inc. factory, where Mike Wazowski, Sulley and their fellow monsters generate energy by collecting children’s laughter.
Although much of the attraction remains hidden behind construction walls, the latest progress suggests work has moved beyond site preparation and into the vertical construction phase.
Disney’s First Suspended Coaster
The new attraction will feature Disney’s first suspended roller coaster, taking guests on a journey through the iconic door vault from Pixar’s Monsters, Inc.
Rather than riding on top of the track, vehicles will hang beneath it, allowing guests to swing through scenes inspired by the beloved animated film. Disney has also confirmed that the attraction will feature a unique vertical lift, recreating the memorable sequence in which doors shoot upward before racing through the enormous warehouse.
The combination of immersive storytelling and an innovative ride system is expected to make the coaster one of the resort’s most ambitious attractions in years.
A Completely New Land
The roller coaster is the centrepiece of an entirely new Monsters, Inc.-themed area replacing the former Muppets Courtyard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
In addition to the signature attraction, the land will include themed dining, shopping and entertainment, allowing guests to step directly into the streets of Monstropolis for the first time at a Disney park.
Disney has described the expansion as one of the most immersive Pixar experiences ever created, with architecture, lighting and environmental storytelling inspired directly by the film.
Construction Continues
While Disney has not yet announced an official opening date, visible progress on the site indicates that construction is advancing steadily. The appearance of the first themed structures marks an important milestone, as the project begins transitioning from heavy infrastructure work to the creation of the guest experience itself.
With more buildings expected to rise over the coming months, fans will be watching BioReconstruct’s aerial updates closely as Disney’s newest themed land continues to take shape.
