Dreamworld has received approval for a major long-term expansion plan that could change the future of Australia’s biggest theme park.
The plan covers the park’s entire 55-hectare site on the Gold Coast, including Dreamworld, WhiteWater World and several undeveloped areas. Although no new rides have been announced yet, the approval gives the park permission to develop the site further over the coming years.
More Than Just a Theme Park
The masterplan divides the site into four different areas.
The first includes the existing Dreamworld and WhiteWater World parks, with space to add new attractions in the future.
Another area will focus on nature experiences, with plans for walking trails, viewing platforms and accommodation surrounded by nature.
A new central area is planned to include hotels, restaurants, entertainment venues, event spaces and more room for the theme parks to grow.
The final area could eventually include homes, healthcare facilities and educational buildings.
Important Step for the Future
The approval comes with several conditions, including rules to protect the environment and reduce the risk of bushfires and flooding.
Even so, it is an important milestone for Coast Entertainment, the company that owns Dreamworld. It means the company now has a clear plan for how the land can be developed in the future.
Dreamworld CEO Greg Yong said the location offers plenty of opportunities. He pointed to the rapid growth of the surrounding area, the shortage of hotels in the region and the upcoming Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games as reasons why the site has strong potential.
Recent Investments
Dreamworld has already invested heavily in the park over the past two years.
In 2024, it opened Rivertown, a new themed area featuring Jungle Rush, the world’s first Vekoma Switchback Coaster. More recently, the park also introduced King Claw, a giant Gyro Swing from Intamin.
While the newly approved masterplan does not reveal what the next major attraction will be, it gives Dreamworld the flexibility to continue expanding and adding new experiences in the years ahead.
