A record-breaking investment in Wildwood Grove

Tennessee - Dollywood is preparing to open a major new indoor attraction in 2026, marking the most substantial investment in the park’s history. The project, located in the Wildwood Grove area, carries a reported budget of approximately fifty million dollars and is being described by park officials as Dollywood’s “largest single expansion ever.” Construction has been underway since early 2024 and continues to progress visibly behind the current boundaries of the themed area.

A massive building for a next-generation experience

At the center of the project is a vast enclosed structure estimated at 43,000 square feet in size, roughly equivalent to one acre of indoor space. Permits and site plans indicate that the building will house not only the attraction itself, but also themed queue areas, show control rooms, and backstage infrastructure. The facility is being built on newly developed land adjacent to the current Wildwood Grove expansion, with a layout that suggests a complex multi-room experience. The structure is large enough to accommodate over 1,000 guests at peak times, allowing for high throughput while maintaining an immersive environment inside.

A story rooted in Appalachian legend

While the park has not formally revealed the ride’s name or storyline, early branding hints at a themed experience based on the myths and landscapes of the Smoky Mountains. The attraction has been associated with phrases such as “The Legend of Secret Lake,” “Take the Plunge,” and “Take Flight 2026.” These teasers suggest a narrative adventure possibly tied to local folklore, blending natural scenery with elements of fantasy and discovery. Thematically, the new ride appears to continue Dollywood’s emphasis on emotional storytelling and family-oriented immersion.

Mack Rides Rocking Boat track spotted on site

Recent construction photos have revealed track segments being delivered to the site, sparking speculation among industry watchers. The shape and curvature of the track closely match the design used in the Rocking Boat ride system developed by Mack Rides. This system debuted in 2024 at Futuroscope in France with the attraction Mission Bermudes, and has not yet been installed in any North American park.

The Rocking Boat system combines motion-based simulation with rideable track elements. A boat-shaped vehicle sits on a gently arched rail and is capable of rotating, tilting, and pitching in sync with media projections and environmental effects. Unlike traditional coasters or flat rides, it is designed for theatrical showrooms and highly immersive storytelling. If confirmed, Dollywood’s installation would be the first of its kind on the continent.

A bold step forward for regional themed entertainment

The scale and ambition of this project signal Dollywood’s continued evolution into a destination known for innovation, not just charm. In recent years, the park has balanced family accessibility with bold ride concepts, including the award-winning Wild Eagle and the more recent Big Bear Mountain. With this 2026 addition, Dollywood appears to be expanding its indoor offerings while introducing a unique ride system that has so far only been experienced in Europe.

Although no official ride announcement has been made, the combination of construction scale, track design, and thematic clues strongly suggests that a major dark ride experience is on the way. If the Mack Rocking Boat system is indeed being installed, Dollywood is poised to deliver one of the most original and technologically advanced attractions in the region.
