Disney has announced that The Magic of Disney Animation will officially open on 14 September 2026 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, completing the transformation of the park’s new Walt Disney Studios area.
The attraction celebrates the artistry behind Walt Disney Animation Studios and invites guests to step inside a building inspired by the real Roy E. Disney Animation Building in Burbank, California. The experience is based on the award-winning animated short Once Upon a Studio, where Disney characters come to life after the animators leave for the day.
Multiple Interactive Experiences
The new attraction combines several experiences under one roof.
Guests can learn to draw Disney characters during Olaf Draws!, an interactive Animation Academy led by a new Audio-Animatronic Olaf featuring original dialogue recorded by Josh Gad. Families can also explore Drawn to Wonderland, an indoor playground inspired by Mary Blair’s Alice in Wonderland artwork, while Off the Page! offers character encounters celebrating the animation process.
In addition, visitors can explore galleries showcasing Disney Animation artwork and watch Once Upon a Studio in a dedicated theatre.
Completing the New Walt Disney Studios Area
The Magic of Disney Animation is the final major experience to open as part of the new Walt Disney Studios area at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The surrounding area, including Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live and redesigned public spaces inspired by the Disney Animation campus, welcomed guests earlier this year.
The attraction replaces the former Star Wars Launch Bay, which occupied the building after the original version of The Magic of Disney Animation closed in 2015.
The new experience officially opens to guests on 14 September 2026.
