What should have been a dream day for Disney collectors quickly turned into scenes of disorder at two of Europe’s biggest Disney destinations. The launch of a highly anticipated Disney Lorcana collector’s item sparked chaotic crowds in both London and Disneyland Paris, forcing Disney to take unprecedented action.
Long overnight queues, alleged queue-jumping, frustrated fans and suspected scalpers dominated the release, leaving many genuine collectors empty-handed.
Disney Store London Forced to Cancel Release
The most dramatic scenes unfolded outside the Disney Store on Oxford Street in London. Fans had queued overnight in the hope of purchasing the limited-edition Disney Lorcana Curator’s Collection – Heroine Edition, but the situation reportedly spiralled out of control before the store even opened.
According to eyewitnesses, groups of alleged scalpers attempted to push their way into the front of the queue after waiting nearby rather than lining up properly. Several people described the situation as unsafe, claiming genuine fans who had spent the entire night waiting lost their chance to purchase the product.
Following the disruption, Disney announced that the planned release would no longer take place that day. Although the store itself eventually reopened, the Lorcana launch was cancelled and later postponed indefinitely while Disney works on an alternative sales plan.
In a statement, Disney said the safety of guests, cast members and the local community remained its highest priority and apologised to fans who had travelled to the store specifically for the release.
Similar Problems at Disneyland Paris
The same release also caused major problems at Disneyland Paris.
Collectors began lining up long before the shops opened, creating enormous queues throughout Disney Village. As demand continued to grow, crowd control became increasingly difficult and tensions rose among waiting guests.
Disneyland Paris ultimately decided to halt sales after the situation became unmanageable. The limited collector’s edition quickly became the centre of a chaotic morning, with disappointed visitors leaving empty-handed after hours of waiting.
The incident disrupted the normal guest experience in Disney Village, where many visitors encountered unusually large crowds and long waiting times unrelated to the theme parks themselves.
Scalpers Under Fire
Much of the criticism surrounding both events has focused on professional resellers, commonly known as scalpers. These individuals purchase highly sought-after limited-edition merchandise with the intention of reselling it online at significantly inflated prices.
Collectors on social media accused scalpers of organising themselves, jumping queues and using coordinated tactics to secure as many products as possible before genuine fans had an opportunity to buy them.
Although these claims have not been officially confirmed by Disney, the issue has reignited debate about how limited-edition merchandise should be sold. Many fans are calling for stricter purchase limits, lottery systems or online reservations to prevent similar situations in the future.
Lorcana’s Popularity Continues to Explode
Since its launch in 2023, Disney Lorcana has become one of the world’s fastest-growing trading card games. New expansions and exclusive promotional products regularly sell out within minutes, with rare items often appearing on resale websites for several times their original retail price.
The events in London and Paris demonstrate just how intense demand has become. What was intended to be a celebration for Disney fans instead resulted in cancelled sales, crowd management issues and widespread disappointment.
With collectors continuing to compete for increasingly limited releases, Disney now faces growing pressure to rethink how exclusive Lorcana products are distributed before future launches lead to similar scenes of chaos.
