Most theme park fans dream of marathon riding their favourite roller coaster, but could you stay on the same ride for 12 consecutive hours?
Djurs Sommerland is giving coaster enthusiasts the chance to find out. The Danish amusement park has opened registrations for a unique charity event that challenges participants to spend an entire day riding Piraten, one of Europe’s most acclaimed roller coasters.
The event combines endurance, fundraising and a passion for thrill rides in what promises to be one of the most unusual coaster events of the year.
Twelve Hours on Piraten
Unlike traditional coaster enthusiast events, participants won’t be moving between different attractions. Instead, they will spend 12 hours riding Piraten over and over again.
Piraten, an Intamin Mega-Lite coaster that opened in 2008, reaches a top speed of 90 km/h and stands 32 metres tall. Despite its relatively compact layout, it has earned an outstanding reputation thanks to its powerful airtime, smooth ride and intense pacing. Many enthusiasts consider it one of the best roller coasters in Europe.
Over the course of 12 hours, participants are expected to complete hundreds of laps, experiencing thousands of seconds of airtime and countless high-speed turns.
Riding for a Good Cause
The marathon is not just about setting a personal endurance record.
Each participant is encouraged to collect sponsorships and donations, with all proceeds supporting a charitable cause. By combining fundraising with a unique amusement park challenge, Djurs Sommerland hopes to bring together coaster fans while making a positive contribution beyond the park.

The park recently announced Midgårdsormen, Northern Europe’s first Intamin Hot Racer coaster, which is scheduled to open in 2027. The new attraction will feature two launches, three inversions and a top speed of 75 km/h, further strengthening the park’s already impressive roller coaster collection.
