Burgers’ Zoo to Renovate Indoor Desert Habitat

Burgers’ Zoo, located in Arnhem, Netherlands, is set to undertake a renovation of its Desert habitat. This project is scheduled to begin on November 6, 2025, with an expected completion date by mid-2026. The renovation will introduce new features to the indoor desert, which simulates the environments of the Sonoran and Mojave deserts.

Expansions and Additions

The renovation of the Desert habitat includes plans to introduce several new animal species, particularly reptiles not previously part of the zoo’s collection. The visitor pathway will be extended, allowing for a more comprehensive exploration of the habitat.

Facility Enhancements

The Desert Restaurant will be repurposed to create new animal habitats, providing additional space for desert-dwelling animals.

Improved Accessibility

Visitor feedback regarding accessibility has led the zoo to adjust the entrance and exit points. The renovations will include a new entrance and exit to improve access for all visitors.

Project Timeline and Visitor Experience

Despite the construction work, Burgers’ Zoo plans to maintain visitor access to the Desert. Areas undergoing renovation will be screened off to ensure that the visitor experience remains uninterrupted. Further details about the project and the new animal species will be disclosed by the zoo at a later date.
