Bobbejaanland Prepares for Its First-Ever Winter Opening

Belgium - Bobbejaanland is gearing up for a historic moment as the Belgian theme park prepares to open its gates this winter for the first time in its long history.

The inaugural seasonal event, launching on Saturday 6 December, will transform the park into a festive landscape filled with themed zones, illuminated pathways and a variety of new experiences. With just one week to go, preparations are in full swing as teams work to reshape large parts of the park for the debut of Bobbejaanland Wintert.

Six Distinct Winter Zones

The winter event features six themed zones, each with its own atmosphere and seasonal décor. The popular Land of Legends area will temporarily become Land of Fire & Ice, highlighted by a 78-square-meter ice palace constructed as a maze of more than fifty mirrors. Elsewhere in the park, additional winter realms will emerge under the names A Winter Welcome, Snow Valley, Santa City, Glacier Bay and Lake of Frost.

These zones introduce a mixture of festive scenography, themed installations and unique entertainment offerings designed to immerse visitors in the holiday spirit. More than five hundred Christmas trees sourced from the surrounding region are being installed throughout the park, while buildings and pathways are being decorated with approximately thirty kilometers of lights, totalling more than 355,000 individual bulbs.

Lake of Frost and the Floating Ice Rink

One of the most striking additions is found at Lake of Frost, which features a 375-square-meter ice rink built on floating pontoons on Bobbejaanland’s large central lake. For the first time, guests will be able to cross the lake via the pontoon bridge that connects its two sides. A charming Alpine-style hut beside the rink will offer refreshments and winter treats, creating a scenic lakeside gathering point.

Entertainment and Seasonal Shows

Entertainment will play a central role in Bobbejaanland’s winter season. A 45-minute circus show will be performed twice daily, offering acrobatics, artistry and family-friendly spectacle. Guests will also have the chance to meet beloved seasonal characters, including Santa Claus and the Ice Queen, while a festive ceremony will take place each afternoon at 4:00 p.m. to light the park’s impressive 13-meter Christmas tree.

The event will introduce several additional shows, such as the Fire & Light Show, the Winter Parade, and De Droomers van Droodal, each adding to the vibrant holiday atmosphere. Children can embark on a playful quest with mischievous Christmas elves and enjoy meet-and-greet moments with Bobbejaanland mascots Bobbie and Jody.

Glacier Bay, Starlight Walk and Additional Activities

Glacier Bay will host a temporary tube slide, giving visitors the chance to glide down the slope on inflatable rings. The park is also creating the new Starlight Walk, an illuminated walking route that winds through specially lit scenery and glowing pathways, designed to offer guests a calm and atmospheric evening exploration.

While many of the park’s signature attractions remain open during the winter event, water rides will stay closed due to seasonal conditions. Nevertheless, the array of new features ensures that Bobbejaanland Wintert offers a full and varied program for guests of all ages.
