Construction has officially begun on a new family launch coaster for 2027, just weeks after the opening of the park’s first Asterix-themed area, underlining the rapid pace of change at the German amusement park.
Another milestone in Belantis’ transformation
Belantis has officially started construction on its next major attraction, continuing the park’s ambitious redevelopment less than two months after opening its first Asterix-themed land.
The new project centres around a family launch coaster from German manufacturer Gerstlauer, which will anchor an entirely new themed area scheduled to open in 2027. A symbolic groundbreaking ceremony marked the start of construction, with park executives joined by representatives of the Saxony state government and the Asterix characters themselves.
The expansion is the latest visible step in the long-term transformation of Belantis following its acquisition by French leisure group Compagnie des Alpes in 2025.
A family coaster at the heart of a new themed area
The coaster will be built in the current Beach of the Gods section of the park, which will undergo a complete redesign before reopening next year.
Rather than pursuing a record-breaking thrill ride, Belantis has opted for a family launch coaster that will bridge the gap between the park’s attractions for young children and its more intense roller coasters. The ride is intended to offer an accessible experience that families can enjoy together, reflecting the park’s growing emphasis on broad family appeal.
Although technical specifications have not yet been released, concept artwork indicates that the attraction will be heavily integrated into its surrounding themed environment.
Investment programme moves at remarkable speed
The construction start comes only weeks after the opening of Idefix’ Adventure Land, the first new area introduced as part of Belantis’ redevelopment.
That project marked the arrival of the Asterix franchise at the park, adding four family attractions, a playground and themed experiences for younger visitors. The decision to begin work on another expansion so soon afterwards demonstrates the pace at which Compagnie des Alpes is implementing its long-term masterplan.
For years, Belantis saw relatively limited investment while competing against larger parks elsewhere in Germany. Since the change in ownership, however, new developments have followed each other in rapid succession.
Building Germany’s first Asterix park
The family coaster is only one part of a much larger vision for the Leipzig attraction.
Compagnie des Alpes plans to gradually transform Belantis into the first Asterix-themed park outside France by 2030 or 2031. Existing areas will be redeveloped in phases, while new attractions, infrastructure and themed experiences are added over the coming years.
The 2027 expansion therefore represents more than the addition of another roller coaster. It is another significant milestone in the park’s evolution, as Belantis continues its transition from a regional amusement park into a destination built around one of Europe’s most recognisable comic franchises.
