Alton Towers is giving fans the chance to step behind the scenes of its remarkable past with a brand-new VIP experience that opens the doors to the resort’s extensive historical archives.
Named Archives Unlocked, the limited-time experience offers visitors a guided tour through the Alton Towers Exhibition, where decades of artwork, memorabilia and rare artefacts tell the story of how the resort evolved into one of Europe’s leading theme park destinations.
Rare Artefacts Brought Out of Storage
The exhibition features a wide variety of items that have rarely, if ever, been displayed to the public.
Guests can examine original concept artwork, historic park maps, attraction merchandise, photographs, promotional material and other archive pieces spanning more than four decades of Alton Towers history. Many of the exhibits document the transformation from a country estate into the thrill ride destination known today.
One highlight of the experience is a replica of an original 1981 Alton Towers park map, which visitors can take home as a souvenir.
Guided by Alton Towers Experts
Unlike a traditional museum visit, Archives Unlocked is led by knowledgeable guides who share the stories behind many of the objects on display.
The tour explores how iconic attractions were conceived, how the park changed over the years and the history behind some of its most famous rides and themed areas. Visitors also gain insight into attractions that no longer exist, making the experience particularly appealing to long-time fans of the resort.
A New Addition to the VIP Line-Up
Archives Unlocked joins Alton Towers’ growing range of premium experiences.
In recent years, the resort has introduced popular behind-the-scenes tours of attractions such as Nemesis Reborn and Hex: The Legend of the Towers, along with track walks on rides including Oblivion and Wicker Man. The new exhibition experience shifts the focus from engineering to history, offering a different perspective on the resort.
Available for a Limited Time
The new VIP experience is available daily until 28 August, making it a special summer offering for enthusiasts interested in the park’s rich heritage.
For many fans, Alton Towers is more than just a collection of rides. It is a place with decades of history, legendary attractions and unforgettable memories. With Archives Unlocked, the resort is inviting visitors to step back in time and discover the stories that helped shape one of Europe’s most iconic theme parks.
