Dozens of visitors at Universal Orlando Resort experienced an unexpected interruption to their day on Saturday after a ride came to a halt in an elevated position, prompting an emergency response from the Orlando Fire Department.
Approximately 70 guests became stranded when the attraction experienced a technical issue. Although the situation attracted significant attention, all riders remained safe throughout the incident and no injuries were reported.
Firefighters Assisted with the Evacuation
Because the ride stopped above ground and could not immediately resume operation, firefighters worked alongside Universal Orlando’s technical teams to safely evacuate every guest.
Each rider was secured with a safety harness before being escorted down emergency ladders and evacuation platforms. The operation was completed efficiently, allowing everyone to return safely to ground level without requiring medical treatment.
Cause of the Breakdown Remains Unknown
Universal Orlando has not disclosed which attraction was involved or what triggered the stoppage.
Like most modern attractions, rides at major theme parks are equipped with sophisticated monitoring systems that automatically stop operation whenever sensors detect an irregularity. While this can lead to lengthy delays or evacuations, these systems are designed to prioritise guest safety above all else.
Technical inspections are typically carried out before an attraction is allowed to reopen.
Emergency Procedures Worked as Intended
Although videos of ride evacuations often spread quickly across social media, incidents requiring assistance from local fire departments remain relatively uncommon.
Major theme parks regularly conduct emergency response training with both their own staff and local emergency services, ensuring that guests can be evacuated safely if a ride cannot be restarted.
In this case, those procedures worked exactly as intended. Despite the dramatic images of firefighters assisting guests from the elevated attraction, all 70 riders were evacuated safely, and no injuries were reported.
